Sawtooth Lake HIke

July 30, we hiked up to Sawtooth Lake, in the beautiful Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Another great day for a hike, though a bit warm and a bit crowded. Met 24 hikers either on their way up or on their way down. Sawtooth Lake has a history of a plane crash some 50 years ago. to the remoteness of the area, most of the fuselage remained there, though I do understand the engine and parts were hauled out and sold. I'm sharing some more of God's blessings in nature. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Update on the plane wreck. It happened in the summer of 1957. The pilot and his wife were killed when they were flying too low in the Sawtooth lake area. The crew were being used by the Forest Service to spray trees to protect spruce bud worm.

Backpacked to Sawtooth Lake last weekend and found the airplane wreckage when we hiked around the lake. It was rather eerie and we wondered if the occupants had survived, although it didn't look as though they could have. Where did you find more details about the wreck - the date and the fact that they were spraying for spruce bud moth?
